Superwet lipo is the current method for liposuction under general anesthesia and epidural anesthesia worldwide.
Superwet lipo involves the injection of a "wetting solution" into the fat layers being treated. The wetting solution usually contains the same ingredients as tumescent anesthesia, but in lower concentrations. Also, a much smaller volume of wetting solution is given than in tumescent liposuction. The main objective of the wetting solution is to deliver epinephrine to the treatment site to reduce bleeding.
Superwet lipo is an acceptable option for patients who cannot tolerate tumescent lipo for medical reasons or who are having other procedures which need to be performed under general anesthesia at the same time. For everyone else, tumescent lipo is a superior option.
FIND OUT WHY
Superwet lipo is distinct from Wet Lipo. Wet lipo is performed under general anesthesia and involves the injection of a small amount of saline without epinephrine at the surgical site. Even less wetting solution is administered than with superwet lipo. The saline functions as a lubricant so that the surgeon can work faster. Wet lipo is of historical significance only and was abandoned decades ago because it was plagued with heavy blood loss and even shock.
Out of Town Patients
Many lipo surgery patients at LVR-NJ travel considerable distances for our expertise in lipo surgery. We facilitate this process by providing the option of same-day consultation/same-day surgery. This is arranged in advance and by request at the time that you contact our office. Pre-operative bloodwork testing will need to be performed in advance through a local physician or lab near your home. Drs. Pelosi will review your situation to determine if this is an appropriate option. If you fly, or if your drive home is more than 2 hours, we recommend that you stay in the area overnight after your surgery so that Drs. Pelosi can evaluate you for proper healing on the day after surgery; afterwards, you may travel home. In certain situations, we can provide you with an overnight stay the night before your surgery if you are arriving late in the day. Click here for general travel info.
