Beginnings
Sometimes called lipomodeling, breast augmentation with fat began in the 1980s. Initially, there was concern that this procedure would produce confusing mammogram changes & potentially conceal cancers. These worries have not proven to be a real problem. Modern breast imaging techniques have no problem distinguishing fat from cancer.

Volumes
Transplanted fat is living tissue. It needs to be injected in smaller volumes than that of artificial implants in order for it to survive. A portion of this fat will not survive beyond the first few weeks. Most fat injections involve approximately 200cc of fat per breast and result in half-cup size augmentation. The procedure, however, can be repeated at three-month intervals if adequate fat deposits remain elsewhere on the body.

Unique Applications
Versatility is the hallmark of fat transplantation. It can be injected anywhere on breast to achieve contours impossible with conventional implants. It is frequently used around existing implants or after breast lift (mastopexy) procedures to enhance upper pole fullness and to treat rippling or visible implant edges.

Recovery
Since these procedures are usually done in conjunction with medium-volume liposuction procedures, the recovery is similar. Compression garments and a special bra are worn for six weeks. Discomfort is mild and typically limited to the areas treated with lipo.

Out of Town PatientsMany patients at LVR-NJ travel considerable distances for our expertise in this procedure. We facilitate this process by providing the option of same-day consultation/same-day surgery. This is arranged in advance and by request at the time that you contact our office. Pre-operative bloodwork testing will need to be performed in advance through a local physician or lab near your home. Drs. Pelosi will review your situation to determine if this is an appropriate option. If you fly, or if your drive home is more than 2 hours, we recommend that you stay in the area overnight after your surgery so that Drs. Pelosi can evaluate you for proper healing on the day after surgery; afterwards, you may travel home. In certain situations, we can provide you with an overnight stay the night before your surgery if you are arriving late in the day.
