Safety is the top priority in elective surgery. Cosmetic treatments are the most elective of all procedures in the fields of medicine and surgery and deserve the most intense consideration for your wellbeing.
Safety is a process, a never-ending, ongoing process that encompasses the patient, all members of the surgical team, the facility, and the recovery process. It is not a diploma on a wall, it is not membership in any type of professional society, it is not inherent to the completion of any residency training program, fellowship or postgraduate course and it is not inherent to any specific type of facility.
Safety is the foremost consideration in cosmetic surgery at LVR-NJ. Drs. Pelosi and the entire LVR-NJ team are highly trained professionals dedicated to delivering the safest effective aesthetic solutions to you .

We Make Sure You're Healthy Enough for Your Procedure
Proper patient selection is the most critical component of the safety process. Simply stated, cosmetic surgery is not an option for every patient who makes the request. Certain medical conditions, surgeries, injuries, allergies, and anatomical factors prohibit certain cosmetic operations because they increase the risk of complications related to the operation itself, anesthetic agents or wound healing. A thorough medical evaluation including bloodwork analyses and age-appropriate cardiovascular testing forms the basis for patient selection. Factors which affect the postoperative recovery process such as your ability to comply with physical restrictions, to be available for planned outpatient monitoring of the healing process, and to have an assistant or aide as determined by the expected magnitude of your recovery also play a critical role in determining the appropriateness of the planned operation or of its timing.
We Work Together as a Team
A surgical team is no different than the crew of a large airplane. Ours is comprised of educated, skilled and talented individuals working together to monitor and assess information relevant to your safety through the pre-operative, intra-operative and postoperative phases of treatment and to carry out protocol-driven actions based on that information. Your team was handpicked by Drs. Pelosi from the very best hospital surgical teams with which they have worked over their many years' experience in hospital operating rooms. There is a waiting list to be a member of the Pelosi surgical team. Action driven by information supersedes seniority or rank. This is a modern concept adopted from the airline industry’s landmark studies on accident prevention. The key to team safety is communication and it is incumbent upon each member of the team to convey essential information to team members when needed without delay or fear of reprisal. A well-trained team functions smoothly and efficiently through the surgical process and adapts to changing conditions and situations without delay by following established protocols. Our team works together on a daily basis and has managed hundreds of procedures like yours.
We Stay Up-to-Date with the Latest Info
Medical and surgical science is constantly evolving and our staff receives regular training on the latest cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques to ensure your best outcome in the event of an emergency. Everyone on our staff from surgeons to front desk personnel receive regular training in Basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation on a yearly basis. In addition, our surgeons and some of our team members work in hospital operating rooms on a regular basis and bring the latest hospital operating room safety practices and knowledge for integration into LVR-NJ.
We Employ Only the Safest Anesthesia Techniques & Protocols
At LVR-NJ, procedures are performed with either local anesthesia alone (Tumescent or AWAKE surgery) or with supplemental intravenous sedation (Twilight anesthesia). Our tumescent (AWAKE) local anesthesia protocols follow the strict dosing guidelines developed by the originators of these techniques and are conducted under full noninvasive vital signs monitoring and fluid monitioring irregardless of whether you are having a small or large procedure. Drs. Pelosi were trained in the tumescent anesthesia protocols by Dr. Jeffrey Klein, the California-based dermatologic surgeon who tested and developed what is considered to be the safest type of anesthesia for many cosmetic procedures. Drs Pelosi have one of the largest team experiences with tumescent local anesthesia in the country and even teach these methods to other surgeons on a regular basis via their societies (ISCG, AACS, ASLSS). When intravenous sedation is required, Drs. Pelosi uniformly employ the services of the best board-certified anesthesiologists with whom they have worked in the hospital operating room environment for many years.
Our Facility is Modern, Well-Equipped & AAAHC Accredited
The surgical facility must address the safety needs of the patients being operated, the modes of anesthesia being utilized and of the procedures being performed. Minimum standards are mandated by law and a truly safe environment goes beyond this level by tailoring its safeguards to the specifics of the type of work being performed. Common sense dictates that any medical facility should possess a basic capability for resuscitation from common yet unexpected events and the capacity to expedite triage to an appropriate facility for emergent care when needed. To ensure that our center meets the highest standards of safety, we maintain AAAHC accreditation. AAAHC, or the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, Inc., is a private, non-profit organization formed in 1979 to assist ambulatory health care organizations in improving the quality of care provided to patients. AAAHC accreditation means that the organization participates in on-going self evaluation, peer review and education to continuously improve its care and services. The organization also commits to a thorough, on-site survey by AAAHC surveyors, who are themselves health care professionals, at least every three years.
We are Trained & Experienced Surgeons
It may sound obvious, but Drs. Pelosi began their careers with full residency training in obstetrics & gynecology, then received additional training in cancer surgery (Dr. Pelosi II), and pelvic reconstructive surgery (Dr. Pelosi III). In addition, they pioneered many of the minimally invasive surgical techniques in use today in pelvic and vaginal surgery. That was BEFORE they took their formidable skills, their scientific mindset and their extensive knowledge of surgical technology into the arena of cosmetic surgery. Their combined operating room experience of over fifty years of dealing with all types of surgical conditions is the foundation upon which they developed, slowly, precisely and incrementally a safe and effective system of cosmetic surgery. Drs. Pelosi are trained to prevent, and if necessary, treat emergencies. They have been trained, certified and recertified in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) for emergencies. A comprehensive education, including a sound foundation in anatomy and physiology, provides Drs. Pelosi with an understanding of all body systems-including ventilation, circulation, fluid and electrolyte balance - all of which are vitally important to patient safety.
